“Quality ingredients, cooked simply with a touch of flair”
The Foxham Inn is owned and run by husband and wife team Neil and Sarah, both of whom have an extensive background in food and hospitality.
Neil has been a chef throughout his career. He spent much of his childhood and adolescence cooking dinners for the family, or preparing the food for dinner parties – at least, up until the time he put a whole head of garlic in a coq-au-vin, thinking that was the ‘one clove’ quantity that the recipe had called for!
His first job in the catering industry came at the age of 16, when Neil worked at The Red Lion Hotel in Lyme Regis for a summer season. After completing his City and Guilds 706/1 and 2 qualifications at Bath College, he started work as a Commis Chef at Ston Easton Park. Over the following years Neil cooked in a variety of locations, including The Tytherleigh Cot Hotel in Chardstock, Chelwood House Hotel and Bibury Court Hotel before becoming a Sous Chef at Hinton Grange Hotel.
It was during his time at Hinton Grange that Neil met Sarah, who having already completed washing-up and ‘sweets and starters’ jobs in other restaurants, was then working as a waitress. They were married in 1995, and their son George arrived in 2001.
Five years later, when George started school, Neil and Sarah decided to refocus their ambitions on a project that had been a lifelong dream for them both: to own their own restaurant. Despite living in Devon at the time, their search for an available restaurant brought them to Chippenham where they instantly fell in love with and purchased The Foxham Inn.
Today Neil and Sarah remain the owners and are joined by an able team of support chefs and waiting staff. You might even see George, who is now 13, helping out around the place from time to time!
Over their years of ownership they have steadily improved and renovated the restaurant, updating the decor and even adding an extension and a new kitchen which has proved very popular with new and regular diners alike. Two beautiful ensuite bedrooms have also resulted from the renovation programme, which are available for guests to rent either on a nightly basis or for a short break in the Wiltshire countryside.
The underlying values and ethos of the restaurant, however, remain unchanged and stem from Neil and Sarah’s own passion for great dining and excellent hospitality.
